Liquid Lipstick Series: Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint

Another Monday means another liquid lipstick blog post. I’ve shared five brands so far and will list them all at the bottom of the post. Today we have a look at the Tarte tarteist lip paints.

I’m convinced I have two different formulas as the packaging of the shade So fetch looks a tad bit different. The texture, scent as well as the way it feels and settles on the lips feels different to the others.

The shade So fetch comes housed in a simple, basic packaging with a black top and gold lettering. The actual shade of the lipstick shine through which makes this simple packaging look rather stunning against the backdrop. The doe foot applicator is a little strange. It’s almost rounded on the edge and not ideal for a defined lip. This liquid lip also has a minty scent which I quite like.

The shades Front row and Fly have a similar looking tube as So Fetch but it’s slightly slimmer and the neck of the tube as a gold rim. The doe foot applicator has a standard shape with a small indent in the centre to hold more product. This applicator feels really firm, is user-friendly and allows for an even and more precise application.

The Formula

The formula of the shade So fetch is neither creamy or liquidy. It feels mousey but not as thick so I’d say it’s more of a whipped formula. It’s pigmented and feels comfortable on the lips. I’m not sure if it’s because of the shade or the applicator but it doesn’t spread evenly. There’s some streakiness that needs finessing and it takes 2 even layers for it to look good. What I like about this formula is that it feels lightweight on the lips. It dries down to a powdery semi-matte finish that dries down a bit more over time. They wear well for about 5 hours but touch ups are needed thereafter.

Front row and Fly have more of a creamy consistency. These dry down to a light matte finish and are comfortable on the lips. They, however, might feel a tad bit drying for those who naturally have dry lips so exfoliating and lip prep is advised. These two are transfer proof and are longer lasting than the one above.

  • So Fetch described as a warm pinky coral

  • Front Row described as a deep mauve but I’d say this is more of a warm brown

  • Fly described as a raspberry/ cool berry

I prefer the formula of Front Row and Fly. They apply easier, dry down quickly, are transfer proof and extremely long wearing.

There are a few other shades I have my eye on, more so the nude and pinky shades.

Let me know if you’ve tried this formula before and what your thoughts are?

Such a great resource for lipstick addicts like yourself 😉 I was looking at the 3 I have yesterday, sorting out my space and realised I haven’t used it in a while. I’m shopping my stash this week, so plan to use them all!!
