Liquid Lipstick Series: L’Oréal les chocolats

I’ve seen previews of these lipsticks for months now and I’ve watched a few YouTube videos where international Youtubers raved about them. So when I saw that these were launching in SA I got really excited.

L’Oréal les chocolats liquid lipsticks

Give into your inner chocoholic with Les Chocolats Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick, a collection of matte liquid lip colours in 12 chocolate-inspired shades. With an irresistible chocolate scent and the hottest nude shades, you won’t be able to stop at one. Meet the chocolate that doesn’t melt Les Chocolates Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick has a melt-proof formula so you can forget your lip colour smudging or budging, for up to 12 hours.

The lipsticks come in a frosted plastic tube where you’re able to “tell the shade” through the tube. The colour of the tube isn’t a true representation of the colour inside so I’d advise you to rather search for swatches if you’re curious about the actual shade.

The doe foot applicator is a slanted teardrop shape with an indent that holds enough product so you’re able to achieve full application without needing to dip in more than once.

My experience with the liquid lipsticks

The lipstick has a delightful chocolate scent and what I can appreciate is that it doesn’t smell artificial. If you’re someone who isn’t heavily into scented products then you don’t have to worry, the scent disappears after a while.

The consistency isn’t too liquidy or thick, it has a medium thickness that spreads easily. L’Oreal claims that the formula is comfortable to wear and doesn’t crack, crumble or flake. I agree with the above mentioned, however, it can get patchy if you purse your lips together and the lipstick hasn’t dried completely. It also takes a while to dry, I’d say close to 10 minutes, which is pretty long but is expected with this type of formula. The sticky feeling stays throughout the day so if you’re someone who can’t bare this then you might not enjoy these as much. It isn’t an unbearable stickiness but definitely noticeable.

The pigmentation is AMAZING. All you need is one swipe to achieve full opacity. Once these set, they still have a slight sheen to them which is a bit of a bummer as I expected them to be a completely matte finish. They also dry down darker than when first applied, so just something to keep in mind.

The longevity of these lipsticks is what blew my mind. They claim to be 12-hour wear and I agree with this 100%. In fact, I’ve worn mine for 14 hours and these lipsticks do not move. They’re without a doubt one of the longest wearing lipsticks in my collection. If you’re planning to be out all day and you know you won’t have time for touch ups then you need to try these.

Because these are so long wearing, they’re also really difficult to remove. I apply coconut oil and allow it to sit on the lips for a few minutes to break it down to a sort of emollient consistency, then wipe away with a warm damp cotton pad.

Candy Man – light cool pinky nude

Box of Chocolates – cool toned medium pinky brown

70% Yum – dark warm brown

Final Thoughts

Besides these having a bit of a sheen and doesn’t settle to a complete matte finish as well as the fact that they remain tacky throughout the day, they really are super long wearing. The doe foot applicator is probably my favourite from all the liquid lipsticks I own. It just allows for the most precise application.

They’re also decently priced at R140 each and available at Dischem as well as on Takealot. I usually look out for sales or when Dischem has their 3 for 2 promotion.

Let me know if you’ve tried these lipsticks and what your thoughts are?
