Liquid Lipstick Series: Kylie Cosmetics
Thank you for the great response to my Liquid Lipstick Series so far. I have quite a few brands in my collection and with liquid lipsticks still being so popular I thought I’d continue sharing my thoughts on the ones I own.
Today I’m chatting about the Kylie Cosmetics velvet and matte liquid lipsticks. Kylie released her brand in 2015 and man this woman sure has made her mark in the beauty industry. I’ll be honest, I didn’t fall for the hype and only purchased my first Kylie lipsticks 2 years after the launch.
About Kylie Cosmetics
Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner is one of the fastest growing beauty brands in the world. Having launched three years ago, Kylie Cosmetics was put on the makeup map, by Kylie’s infamous “Lip Kit,” consisting of a matching liquid lipstick and lip liner to create the perfect Kylie pout. Kylie’s never-before-seen concept disrupted the market and changed the face of the beauty industry forever. Kylie has since gone on to expand the collection into a full range of color cosmetics, including eyeshadow palettes, concealers, highlighters, blushes, accessories and more, as well as becoming one of the most renowned and coveted cosmetics brands of 2018.
Kylie has worked hard to create a line of products that she feels captures the Kylie Jenner aesthetic. She is currently working with our labs to release some exciting new things in the near future. Kylie Posie K Lip Kit
The packaging is elegant yet chic. I love the outer carton as it showcases her brand well. Kylie is known for her sumptuous lips and this lip picture is just stunning. The dripping design is really eye-catching and adds to the aesthetic of the brand. The lip pencil is black with silver writing and the liquid lipstick comes in a transparent tube with a black lid and the same dripping design from the lid onto the tube.
The shade Posie K is described as a cool mid-tone berry. The texture of the lip liner is creamy and glides on with ease. I find myself reaching for this lip liner when I use other pink lipsticks, the only downside is that they break easily. The liquid lipstick smell divine, is highly pigmented and applies beautifully. It has a standard doe foot applicator that’s pretty easy to use. Even though this specific shade wasn’t as drying and uncomfortable as the shade Koko K(my first Kylie lipstick), it still felt noticeably drying on the lip. It’s not a horrible drying feeling but also not my favourite formula. One thing that’s truly impressive is the lasting power of these lipsticks. This formula doesn’t move and I can easily get around 10 hours of wear through drinking and eating.
Kylie X Koko Kollection
The packaging of the Koko collection comes in this beautiful rose gold tube with a transparent front cut-out where you can see the colour. The doe foot applicator, scent and formula are all exactly the same as Posie K. The shade Okurrr is described as a vibrant fuchsia and one of the most beautiful shades in my collection.
Kylie 20th Birthday Collection
I love that Kylie had these minis in 20th birthday collection. The idea of purchasing minis is more appealing to me because I hardly finish a full-size lipstick unless it’s a shade I wear regularly.
I purchased 5 shades from this specific collection, 3 in the velvet finish and 2 in the matte finish. The matte minis have the exact same formula as the 2 I’ve described above.
The velvet formula is unquestionably a creamier and more comfortable formula. They’re as pigmented as the matte lippies but aren’t transfer proof. What I love is that the colour stays put after the initial layer has transferred and it wears beautifully throughout the day.
Velvet shades
Commando – terracotta beige
Party Girl – bright hot coral
Surprise Me – bright fuchsia
Matte Shades
All Nighter – bright red coral
August Bug – vibrant violet
Kylie 21st Birthday collection
Boy bye (velvet finish) – pinky mauve
Boss (matte finish) – soft cherry
Final Thought
I’m not the biggest fan of the Kylie matte liquid lipsticks but I reach for them when I know I need a lipstick that will stay for hours. I just make sure I prep my lips well because these are noticeably dryer than some of the other matte liquid lipsticks I own.
I prefer the velvet formula. These glide on beautifully, are insanely pigmented and feel extremely comfortable on the lips. If you’re someone who suffers from dry lips then I’d advise you to go for the velvet formula.
I’m sure most of you have tried the Kylie lippies, so let me know which is your favourite shade and your overall thoughts on the formula?
XoXo

You should check out fashionpoliceonline, beautygiftsbymelanie and beyondcosmetics, all on instagram. They often have sales on these lipsticks, that’s when I buy mine as I can’t justify paying the full price.
