My Top 5 Mid- To High-End Foundations

Hey beauties

I posted a poll on my Instastories yesterday asking if you guys thought that the brands highlighted in today’s post are mid-end or high-end. Most of you said high-end and I suppose it’s because of the price tag. I, however, think these fall in the mid-range category. When I think high-end I think of brands such as Dior, Armani, Natasha Danone, Pat McGrath, YSL, Tom Ford etc.

I’m starting a top 5 series on my blog where I’ll be sharing some products I’ve been loving, why they’ve worked for me or why I find myself reaching for them more often or over others in my collection.

Today I’m sharing my top 5 mid to high-end foundations in no particular order. I like them all for different reasons.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup SPF 10 – R625

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup SPF 10 is a worry-free, long-wearing makeup provides 15-hour staying power, stays fresh and looks natural through heat, humidity, nonstop activity. Flawless all day. Non-acnegenic.

My experience

I can’t tell you how many people recommended this foundation. It’s one I’ve wanted for such a long time but just couldn’t find my perfect shade until sometime last year when they expanded their shade range. I went to an Estee Lauder counter to get my shade-matched and they now have this innovative digital imatch device to get your perfect match. I was matched to 3w1.5 fawn which is my perfect summer shade.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the consistency of the foundation was slightly liquidy. I expected it to be thicker since it’s a “full coverage” foundation. It applies easily and definitely a full coverage foundation and one you can feel on the skin. The finish isn’t a flat matte which I appreciate. It’s definitely more of a demi-matte finish and looks flawless, almost airbrushed. You do not have to set this foundation with a powder. Once it’s set, it’s set and won’t move. I’ve put this foundation to the test and worn it for over 12 hours and it stayed put, no fading, cracking or creasing. So if you’re on the hunt for a foundation that covers, looks flawless and doesn’t move then this one is for you.

Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation-R515

Introducing All Nighter Liquid Foundation—makeup that stays up. It’s the ultimate foundation for a flawless-looking complexion that won’t quit.
All Nighter Liquid Foundation Provides full coverage with a modern matte finish that never looks overdone. Get serious long-lasting wear and a blown-out effect you never thought was possible. Perfect for all-night affairs and other scandalous activities, our revolutionary formula is also comfortable enough to wear every day.

My experience

This foundation has a smooth, creamy texture which sets pretty fast, so I’d advise you to apply your foundation in sections. It’s definitely a full coverage foundation, and like the Estee Lauder foundation doesn’t have to be set with a powder. It settles to a matte finish but it doesn’t look flat. The light-reflecting pigment in the foundation helps to give the skin some life.

I’ve also put this foundation to the test and it doesn’t wear as long as the double wear but still long-wearing. I find that my t-zone gets oily after 10 hours, so I have to set my t-zone with a powder just to keep my oils at bay. The foundation looks flawless even after 10 hours of wear with no strange cracking, settling into fine lines or fading. So another really great long-wearing, full coverage foundation.

Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation-$40(R900)

Count on #Faux Filter to give you flawless full-coverage with just one pump! What #Faux Filter is: #Faux Filter is a full-coverage velvety foundation, available in 30 delicious shades, that will give you a flawless long-lasting look in just one application. Hiding blemishes, concealing imperfections, and camouflaging dark circles, this amazing formula is packed with ultra-refined pigments that make uneven skin a thing of the past.

My experience

The consistency of this foundation is pretty thick but gives you a flawless, velvety finish. In my opinion, it’s a semi-matte finish that still gives the skin a lovely glow. It does seem to ‘set’ and therefore feels matte. Huda describes it as a radiant powder finish, and you really do get just that.

In terms of longevity… it is very long-lasting too. This is a really gorgeous foundation and gives the skin that blurred effect that amazes me every time I use it. So if you’re looking for full coverage but still want that slight glow then this one is your baby.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation-$35(R799)

Pro Filtr Soft Matte Longwear Foundation from Fenty Beauty is a foundation that gives the skin an instantly smooth finish with less visible and dull pores and easily provides medium or full coverage. The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology, resistant to sweat and moisture, and does not clog pores. The long-lasting texture, light as air, is undetectable on the skin.

My experience

The Fenty foundation is liquidy and for this reason, spreads a little better. It doesn’t dry as fast as the urban decay all nighter but still pretty quickly since it’s a matte foundation. Once settled it gives a beautiful soft matte skin-like finish. This foundation gives medium coverage but can be built up to achieve full coverage and it wears really well throughout the day. I only need to touch up the t-zone area around the 9-hour mark. If you’re looking for something a little more lightweight but still want the coverage then this foundation is for you.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation-$39(R850)

Oil-free foundation offering medium-to-full natural coverage in 35 shades for a flawless match and a perfect finish. Infused with: Coconut Water which aids in delicately replenishing skin’s moisture levels. Hyaluronic Acid which gives a smoother, more youthful appearance. This oil-free foundations masterfully diffuses the line between makeup and skin. Coverage so undetectable, they’ll think you were Born This Way.

My experience

The Too Faced Born This Way Foundation is a dream foundation for me; it has a creamy, velvety smooth formula that gives a satin-matte like finish. I usually stay clear from glowy/radiant foundations because I have oily skin but this formula gives a stunning slight radiant finish. Just enough to create a healthy natural look.

It gives medium coverage but it can be built up to achieve full coverage. Feels extremely lightweight that even when built up, it still looks like skin. There is no caking and no streaky mess. I would suggest that you set it if you have oily skin like myself. This will just ensure that the foundation stays put. Once set, the foundation wears beautifully for about 8 – 9 hours. I blot and touch up around the 9-hour mark.

Final thoughts

If you know you’re gonna be out all day and night then you’d probably want a foundation that will last for hours without you needing to worry about having to touch up. The Estee lauder double wear, Urban Decay All Nighter and Huda Beauty faux filter are all full coverage and long-wearing foundations. You won’t go wrong with any of them. All 3 have a slightly different finish and I guess it depends on your skin type and what you reach for when using a full coverage foundation.

The Fenty is more lightweight and great as a day foundation because it looks skin-like but gives stunning coverage and won’t move.

If you want that gorgeous fresh face/radiant look then the Too faced born this way is for you. This foundation just settles so beautifully and looks so natural. It has become my most reached for foundation.

Hope you guys enjoyed the foundation post. Let me know which products you’d like to feature in my top 5 series. Also, which is your holy grail foundation and why?
