Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Palette – Review and Swatches
Hey guys!
It’s day four and I’m bummed that it’s almost coming to an end. Simone over at “An Ordinary Gal” and I have posted 3 eyeshadow palette reviews so far and today we’re bringing you a brand that has been on everyone’s lips.
Today I’m reviewing one of the reformulated Color Icon eyeshadow palettes that they released towards to end of last year. These aren’t available in SA just yet but I’m confident that it’ll become available real soon because they really are doing the most to extend their range in SA. This gets me soo excited because there are so many products on my lust list and what’s even more exciting is that I know it won’t cost an arm and a leg.
It’s no secret that wet n wild has really stepped up their game. They have gone above and beyond to not only bring products that are cruelty-free but also amazing quality at such affordable prices. No wonder they’ve been voted #1 value brand in America.
Color Icon Eyeshadow 10 Pan Palette – not a basic peach
Description
Powerfully pigmented, buttery-soft, glides on like a dream. That’s what we dreamed up with our reformulated Color Icon eyeshadows. Our reformulated Color Icon hues come in a mix of coveted colors, from shimmery daytime hues to sultry shades for cocktail hours—including new matte transitional shades for impeccable blending.
Packaging
These eyeshadows still come in a plastic casing with a transparent top where you’re able to see the shades. I actually prefer this packaging to the older one because it doesn’t feel big and bulky. You would think that seeing as this palette is smaller than the older version that it would have less product but that isn’t the case as it has more product. I also quite like the layout of the eyeshadows in the palette and love that they made the transition shade pans larger than the rest because many of us hit pan on those shades first.
Eyeshadows
This palette immediately sparked my interest because of all the warm orange and peachy shades. I mean, how visually appealing is this baby? These shades are definitely more fun than the other 3 palettes and perfect for spring and summer. The palette consists of 5 mattes, 1 satin with subtle shimmer and 4 shimmer/metallic shades.
I own the old Color Icon eyeshadow palette in comfort zone and I must admit that I prefer the shimmer/metallic shades in the old formula. I feel they are a little softer and apply better than the reformulated shadows. The gold and peachy/rose gold metallic shades in this palette apply with ease and show up vibrantly on the lids but the aqua and purplish plum “metallics” aren’t as pigmented and perform better and look more vivid when the brush is sprayed with some fix +.
The matte shades are the star of this palette, they are smooth and blend out beautifully. I’m sure you can tell by these swatches that these matte shadows don’t lack pigment. They also did a great job at choosing transition shades. The lighter transition shade which looks like a light taupey beige works well as a shade to blend out any harsh lines. The other transition shade is deeper and darker and I think this will work perfectly for darker skin tones. I use this shade to deepen my crease and what I love is that you can build it up to darken it and it works pretty well to darken the outer v.
The light peach shade is a matte with subtle shimmer particles. These types of finishes aren’t my favourite but I suppose it all boils down to preference.
Overall Thoughts
Wet n wild has rapidly become one of the most trusted drugstore brands. They are an affordable brand that really delivers. This palette is a winner in my books. It retails for $4.99 and like I mentioned above, they’re only available on the wet n wild website. A $4.99 palette that performs this well? I’d take that any day!
It isn’t a perfect palette but if I were to rate it I’d give it 3.5/5. The two metallic shades are a bit lacklustre. They just don’t apply as beautifully as they look in the palette and you definitely need a wet brush and need to pack on the colour for it to be eye-catching. I still feel like the shimmer/metallics in the old formula are much better. That gorgeous peachy matte shade with subtle shimmer is a stunning colour but not my favourite formula for an eyeshadow. The matte shadows are just beautiful. Not only are the shades gorgeous but they got it spot on with the formula.
I’ve rarely been disappointed by this brand and super excited to see what else they add to their range. They continuously push the boundaries and really keep on trend with their products. Wet n wild sure do give some high-end brands a run for their money.
Do you own any of the old or the reformulated Color Icon eyeshadow palettes? Do you love them? What are your thoughts on the brand?
I’m heading over to “An Ordinary Gal‘s” to read Simone’s post to see which palette she’s reviewing and what her thoughts are.
Toodles Stunners!

I love the Comfort Zone palette so much and definitely want to pick up the reformulated version of it. I’m loving the orangey shade in this palette. So pretty for a warm crease color! 😍
