You guys loved last weeks post where I shared my top 5 mid- to high-end foundations. If you haven’t caught up with that post then please click HERE. The foundations discussed in today’s posts are some of my absolute favourite, more affordable, foundations. I love these so much that I’ve repurchased them several times. I’ve not only tried them for review purposes but I also use them regularly. I enjoy each of these for a different reason so they aren’t ranked at all.
Revlon Colorstay Full Coverage Foundation – R165
Full, matte coverage without any of the typical heaviness. This full-cover foundation legit feels lightweight all day, and all night, long.
Revlon released this foundation sometime last year and I must admit, I got really excited when I heard about it. The texture is rather mousey and seems siliconey. It does have a “built-in primer” so perhaps this is the reason for the silicone feeling. It spread wells and gives medium coverage but you can build it up and it layers very well. It claims to be a matte foundation and I agree with that but it isn’t a flat matte finish. There’s a slight radiance to it which I actually prefer.
Once this foundation sets it feels matte on the skin but looks smooth and natural. It’s perfect for oily skin so I wouldn’t recommend it for those with dry skin.
I’ve worn this foundation for over 10 hours and I must say I was surprised by how well it controlled my oils. I had some slight oils around my t-zone but the foundation still looked beautiful.
L.A Girl Pro Matte Longwear Foundation – R145
With a soft and suede-like finish, PRO matte Foundation will have you covered and shine-free all day. Creamy, liquid formula provides smooth and buildable coverage for both day and night time wear. Minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines for an even, soft-focus effect.
The PRO-Matte HD Foundation has a creamy texture and gives medium to full buildable coverage. It dries comfortably to a suede-like finish as the description above states. The finish reminds me of the Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation. The coverage is beautiful and almost looks like a powder finish. The formula also blends out easily and doesn’t dry too fast so there’s time to build up the coverage. It gives me a completely matte finish without feeling uncomfortable drying or cakey.
So if you’re looking for a comfortable almost suede/powdery finish that long-wearing then this is for you.
L’Oréal Infallible Fresh Wear 24HR Foundation – R165
Be Unstoppable. Introducing L’Oreal’s breakthrough long-wear foundation with breathable-skin technology. Infallible Fresh Wear 24HR Foundation provides medium-to-full buildable coverage that lasts all day and allows the skin to breathe. The formula’s three oil absorbers resist sweat, water, and transfer. The ultra-thin liquid goes on smoothly to give a fresh, healthy-looking complexion that lasts. Colour stays true and blends in evenly, so your makeup looks fresh all day. Non-comedogenic and formulated with SPF, this foundation is suitable for all skin types.
This foundation has a pretty liquidy consistency. I was really surprised at how lightweight and thin the formula is. My initial thought was that the coverage would be minimal…but that’s not the case at all.
The coverage is medium and given the ultra light-weight formula, it can easily be layered for more coverage. It also applies with ease and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. The finish is undeniably beautiful as its more of a natural finish with a slight radiance appearance. This has been my go-to foundation during autumn and winter. It wears really well and I only really feel the need to blot my t-zone around the 9-hour mark. This has to be the lightest “long-wear” foundation I have come across. Hands down.
Maybelline Superstay 24h foundation – R185
Be your own professional makeup artist with Maybelline’s full coverage 24H foundation. Saturated colour pigments provide an ultra-transforming effect in this long-lasting foundation. The lightweight, yet high-impact coverage formula glides onto the skin for a flawless makeup finish that lasts all day. Oil-free. Doesn’t clog pores. Dermatologist tested.
The texture of this product is a bit thick but it blends easily without any effort which I like. I prefer applying it with a beauty sponge because I can build up to a full but not cakey-looking coverage. I don’t need to use a setting powder or a setting spray with this foundation as it sets, move and it’s really long-wearing.
Another great thing about this formula: It’s noncomedogenic, so it won’t clog your pores. If you’re looking for a full coverage foundation that won’t move, wears really well throughout the day and is pretty affordable then this is for you.
Wet n Wild Photo Focus foundation – R99.95
Your skin, only better. Our new high-performing, skin-perfecting foundation underwent major road testing under seven different photo lighting conditions to deliver flawless camera-ready makeup every time. Specially made with a matte, light-diffusing complex to give your skin #nofilter perfection.
- High-performing, breakthrough formula
- Featuring light-adjusting complex to help prevent white cast in photos
- Tested under 7 light condition
The consistency of this foundation neither runny or thick, so more of a medium consistency which really helps when it comes to application. You can achieve medium-full coverage as it layers well for those who want to build up the coverage. They claim that it’s a matte finish and I agree but there’s a slight luminosity to it that I quite like.
The foundation looks flawless once settled. I’m really impressed because it still remained skin-like even after building it up.
The longevity is out of this world. It wears beautifully for close to 10 hours and the best part is that there’s no flashback in photos. I recommend this foundation if you know you’re gonna be out all night.
To all oily-skin ladies, you definitely have to try this foundation! You’ll thank me later.
Drugstore brands have really upped their game, and they sure give some high-end brands a run for their money.
I love a good affordable foundation and I’ve seldomly been disappointed. The shade range with some drugstore brands is something I’ve seen many complain about. So there’s clearly room for improvement.
The 5 foundations mentioned in this post have been my go-to every day affordable foundations. They’re all a little different in formula and finish but all wear beautifully and are super long-wearing.
Let me know which drugstore foundation has been your go-to?
