Empties Post #3 featuring Clinique

Hey Guys
It’s been a while since I’ve published a blog post, so you can only imagine how eager I am to get this post up. We’re getting closer and closer to our special day and saying I’m beyond excited is an understatement. The planning has gone smoothly so far and we trust in the Almighty that it will continue this way.
I’ve written two “empties” blog post so far and if you’re keen on reading my thoughts on a few products from different brands, then please click here and here.
Today I’m sharing my thoughts on a few skincare products from Clinique. I have been lusting over this brand for the longest time. So when the opportunity presented itself for me to test out some of their product, I jumped at it without any hesitation. Eager much? Lol! Probably, but this just tells you how badly I’ve wanted to try their products.
For those of you who aren’t aware, I have an extremely oily t-zone but the rest of my skin is pretty normal. I tend to get the occasional breakout around my extremely oily areas as well as hormonal breakout around my jawline but other than that, my skin behaves itself.
I don’t want this post to be too long (which it probably will be lol) so without further ado, let us get to the exciting part.

Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips – 125ml – R305

“Totally tugless, two-way makeup remover speeds the departure of hard-to-remove eye and lip makeups. Dissolves and “lifts away” long-wearing makeup, even waterproof mascara. Non-irritating, non-stinging. Ophthalmologist Tested. Appropriate for contact lens wearers.”
I received a free deluxe sample size with one of my purchases sometime last year. I’ve been curious about the take the day off makeup remover for lids, lashes and lips because I had seen so many people rave about the cleansing balm version and wondered why this one wasn’t as popular as the other.
Firstly, this one is specifically designed for lids, lashes and lips. I wear waterproof mascara and so impressed by how easily this remover cleared away every trace of makeup. You’ll need a soft cotton round and it’s advised to hold the cotton pad with the product on the area for a few seconds and then wipe with downward strokes. I also wear liquid lipsticks 80% of the time and we all know that some matte lipsticks are a nightmare to remove and this remover gets rid of it with ease.

Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm – 125ml – R315

“Lightweight makeup remover quickly dissolves tenacious eye and face makeups, sunscreens. Transforms from a solid balm into a silky oil upon application. Cleans thoroughly, rinses off completely. Gently helps remove the stress of pollution so skin looks younger, longer. Non-greasy. Non-drying. Ophthalmologist Tested. For all skin types.”
After being so impressed with the one above, I had to try out the cleansing balm so see what the hype was all about.
This flat round container contains a solid oil like substance that dissolves my makeup on contact & the solid composition of the balm emulsifies & turns into an oil-like cleanser. This type of cleanser is so gentle and doesn’t strip the skin, it actually encourages the sebum gland to produce less oil. You don’t need a lot of product because once this gentle formula melts, it spreads easily, so a little goes a long way.
Once you’ve massaged it all over the face, you can proceed to rinse with warm water and you’ll notice how it clears away every trace of makeup. It does have quite an oily consistency once melted and the ladies with oily skin might be hesitant to try this. Fear not though as there won’t be any greasy residue left behind.

Clinique 3 Step Introduction Kit Skin Type 3 – R430.00

“It’s easy with Clinique 3-Step Introduction Kit. Morning and night, cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise, just three minutes.
Works gently, each step enhancing the next.
Set contains:

  • 50ml Liquid Face Wash
  • 100ml Clarifying Lotion 3
  • 30ml Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel”

I saw this kit and figured it’s a great way to try their products especially since this kit contains products specifically for oily skin. I also think that it’s price decently considering the size of the products.

My experience with the 3 Step kit

Picture not my own,  taken from the web.

Liquid Face wash – 1st step – face wash. I love the fresh scent as well as the consistency of the face wash. It also contains tea tree and peppermint oil which provides so many added benefits. A little goes a long way, therefore, all you need is product the size of a 50c, this will be sufficient to completely cleanse your face. This face wash does an amazing job at cleansing the skin without drying it out.
Clarifying lotion – 2nd step – clarifying lotion for an even deeper cleanse. I found this product a little strong the first few times I used it. I experienced a slight tingling sensation but it didn’t last long, so nothing alarming. I decided to mainly use it around my t-zone seeing as this is my problem area and lightly over the rest of my face.  After using it for about 2 weeks and noticing how clear and smooth my complexion was, I knew that it was a necessary step in the skincare regime. I loved it so much that I purchased the full size once I used up this one.
Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel – 3rs step – moisturise. This has to be my favourite daily moisturizing gel during hotter seasons as it ticks all the right boxes. It’s lightweight, fast absorbent and hydrating. This moisturiser does an amazing job at maintaining optimal moisture balance for oily to combination skin. I’ve repurchased this product twice after testing it out using the one in the kit.

Clinique All About Eyes eye gel – R480

“Lightweight eye cream diminishes the appearance of eye puffs, darkness and fine lines. Non-creep, cream/gel formula actually helps hold eye makeup in place. For use morning and night, both under eyes and on lids. Ophthalmologist Tested.”

I first received this eye cream in a sample size and was so impressed by how well it worked that I had to purchase a full size. I can also beyond any doubt agree with the claims above. This is a stunning eye gel. It’s creamy, yet lightweight and fast absorbent. It wears perfectly under makeup and hydrates well. I have fine lines and occasionally wake up with puffy eyes but luckily don’t suffer from dry under eyes. This specific one provides efficient hydration, does a great job at depuffing the eyes and has definitely helped with the appearance of my fine lines. They have another version that is cream based whereas this one is gel based. The cream based one is said to have a richer formula and more for people with dry under eyes.

Final Thoughts

I’ve used these products for over 3 months and super impressed with the results. My favourite has to be the take the day off cleansing balm, the dramatically different moisturizing gel and the all about eyes eye cream.
Would I recommend any of these products? Absolutely yes, if you have the budget. Lol
The take the day off for lids, lashes and lips is a stunning silicone-in-water, dual-phase remover. It’s perfect for sensitive skin and won’t dry out the eye area.
If you’re someone that doesn’t like that fresh cool minty feeling on your skin then you might not like the cleanser.
If you have sensitive skin then the clarifying toner might be a little too harsh on your skin.
My skin feels hydrated and well moisturized without the sticky or greasy residue with the moisturising gel. The lightweight formula is perfect for my morning routine as it layers well and settles beautifully before I have to apply my makeup.
I would advise that you purchase the dramatically different moisturizing cream for dryer seasons or if you have dry skin as this has a slightly thicker consistency and should provide adequate hydration.
The fact that I’ve finished all of these products, until the last drop (practically) and repurchased some of them more than once, is indicative of how much I loved it and how well it worked for my skin.

Great review! I really want to try out the cleansing balm…though at the moment I am off oil based cleansers as it’s causing breakouts on my chin. I will definitely try this one out when I’m back on that band wagon.
