Urban Decay Naked Palette VS Makeup Revolution Iconic 1 Palette + Giveaway

I’ve been wanting to do one of these posts since I started my blog and now I finally have the opportunity to do so. There are many of us who can’t always afford high-end brands because let’s be serious, they aren’t exactly affordable. There are countless great dupe options for many high-end products, one just has to look in the right places.
I did a mini-series called “The Naked Edition” a while ago where I reviewed my Urban Decay Naked Palettes. The very first palette was the Naked 1 and this has to be one of my favourite palettes. Please click here to read my full review.
While scrolling through a beauty facebook page I came across a post where the owner of Glam N Gloss advertised a clearance sale on some Makeup Revolution products. I saw the Makeup Revolution Iconic 1 palette and immediately thought of the Urban Decay Naked 1, so I figured I do a review on it and see how well it performs in comparison to the Naked 1.

About Makeup Revolution

I couldn’t find an actual Makeup Revolution site while trying to do more research on the brand but I stumbled upon TAMBEAUTY.COM. They are the team behind this brand as well as other brands such as Freedom and I {Heart} Makeup.

I won’t lie when I saw the layout of these eyeshadows I was quite surprised. They did an amazing job trying to create a dupe for the Naked 1.

Packaging

The packaging of this palette is nothing wow. The eyeshadows are housed in a very simple classic black plastic casing that feels quite sturdy and has a clear cover where you’re able to see the eyeshadows and it doesn’t have a mirror. I love how compact this palette feels and it’s for this reason very travel-friendly. It does come with a double-ended brush that I wouldn’t normally use but I do find that it’s great for packing on eyeshadow on the lids, especially the shimmery shades in this palette.

Eyeshadows and Pigmentation

The eyeshadows in the palette aren’t named so I’ll number them from left to right. If you’ve read my Urban Decay Naked 1 palette review then you would know that I love that palette because it’s great to use for everyday looks. The Makeup Revolution Iconic 1 is no different when it comes to the colours because it’s an exact dupe.

I’ll number the eyeshadows and also mention which shade they’re comparable to in the Naked palette.
1 – this is a pretty pale beige shade with a subtle shimmery finish. It’s perfect as a brow bone or inner corner highlighter. This shade looks very similar to the shade Virgin in the Naked palette.
2 – this shade looks nude with a hint of pink. It’s comparable to the shade Sin in the Naked palette and great as a highlighter or an all over eyelid shade. I was quite surprised by the pigmentation of this eyeshadow.
3 – a matte light brown shade that is similar to the shade Naked in the Naked palette. It’s not a crazily pigmented eyeshadow but it’s great to use as a transition shade. It applies easily and is buildable.
4 – a shimmery beige shade with microglitter. This shade is comparable to Sidecar but it’s sadly not as pigmented. You’ll have to use Mac fix plus to intensify the colour.
5 – this is a muted brown shade that is a dupe for the shade Buck in the Naked palette. It’s not as deep as Buck but you can build it up. I use this as a crease shade
6 – one of my favourite shades in this palette as well as the Naked palette. It’s a shimmery gold shade that applies beautifully and is comparable to the shade Half Baked in the Naked palette.
7 – this is a gorgeous copper brown shade that’s great to use all over the lid. It’s very similar to the shade Smog in the Naked palette and one of my favourites.
8 – a satin finish deep brown shade. This is comparable to the shade Hustle (the 3rd shade from the right when you’re looking at the Naked palette). Hustle is, however, a tab bit lighter than shade 8 in the Makeup Revolution palette.
9 – this is a shimmery warm pink shade that looks similar to the shade Toasted in the Naked palette. The pigmentation of this shade is average and you’ll definitely need Mac fix plus if you want it to really show up on the lid.
10 – this is another one of my favourites and is comparable to Dark Horse in the Naked palette. I would say it has a pearly finish because it’s not as shimmery as Dark Horse.
11 – this shade looks almost identical to the shade Creep in the Naked palette. A gorgeous onyx shade that’s great for creating a smokey eye.
12 – a gorgeous metallic grey with subtle blue undertones. It’s a very close duplicate to the shade Gunmetal in the Naked palette. Both apply beautifully

Final Thoughts

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by how well these eyeshadows performed. I always use an eye primer so I tested these with a primer and the eyeshadows stayed put for at least 6-7 hours before it started fading. If you consider the price you pay for this palette compared to the Naked palette then I’m sure you’ll probably choose this over the Naked palette. Two of the shimmery shades ( 4 and 9 ) aren’t as pigmented as I had hoped it would be but it’s not an issue because you can just use Mac fix plus to intensify the colour.
Most of the eyeshadows are soft, blends easily and the colour payoff is pretty impressive. The Naked palette is definitely more pigmented, softer and lasts longer but you won’t go wrong with this palette because it’s pretty much an exact dupe for the Naked palette at a fraction of the price.
