Brand Review – "REVLON" + a little Giveaway

Hey Guys!
So I’m finally getting down to writing a review about the products I purchased from the Revlon warehouse sale. About a month ago, a friend told me about the Revlon sale and I was so shocked by the prices of the products, especially considering what they retail for in stores, that I couldn’t resist.
I’ve always wanted to try their foundation so that was the one thing on my list. The rest of the items I bought because they were literally at giveaway prices and I figured this would be a great opportunity to try a few products from the brand and share my thought with you guys.

REVLON Photoready airbrush effect Foundation

IMG_1015
I’ve always wanted to try the COLORSTAY MAKEUP FOR COMBINATION/OILY SKIN but they were unfortunately sold out of the medium shades so I opted to go for the Photoready airbrush effect foundation. This was honestly the first time I had seen this foundation so I googled some reviews and also tried to search what my shade could be. I went with natural beige which was the lightest shade available and www.findation.com also suggested that this would be my shade in this specific foundation.

Revlon’s Description

“Revolutionary formula with Light-Filtering Technology delivers a poreless, airbrushed look. Soft-focus pigments create a luminous finish. your skin has never looked so flawless.”

The Foundation comes in a round glass bottle and contains 30ml of product. It also has a pump which is always a plus especially considering that it’s a drugstore foundation.

My experience with Revlon photoready airbrush effect foundation

I was quite excited to try this foundation as it claims to be oil free, with a light feel that gives an amazing flawless finish. I definitely liked the finish after application but what really threw me off was the fact that it contains micro glitter particles. I wasn’t even aware of it when I swatched it on my hand the day I bought it. I decided to wear to test the wearability but the glitter particles really got to me. They were so noticeable during the day and made my oily skin look extra oily. I had to touch up after 3-4 hours so this is a no go for oily skin. The foundation also oxidised and I looked orange after a few hours.
This foundation, unfortunately, didn’t work out for me. If you have dry skin and looking for that luminous look then this will be great for you.

REVLON powder blush in rosy rendezvous

I’ve slowly been building up my blush collection but I stay clear from very bright colours. I love subtle peach, dusty pinks and rosy blushes. I think I own one bright pink blush but what I love about it is that it applies beautifully and gives an amazing flush of colour. I don’t like overly pigmented blushes because if you are someone like me (heavy handed at times) you can easily end up looking like a clown.

My experience with Revlon Rosy Rendezvous matte powder blush

img_10261.jpg

Rosy Rendezvous is a stunning dusty rose matte blush. The texture of the blush feels quite smooth and applies with ease. It’s not overly pigmented so you’re able to build it up and the colour does last for about 6 hours before it starts fading. It also comes with a really strange little brush, which I’m not too fond of, so I just end up using my big blush brush.

REVLON volume + length magnified mascara

IMG_1028
I’m sure those of you who have been following my blog would know that I’m a sucker for a really good mascara. On my “no makeup” days, I’ll always have mascara on. I feel it just gives that “awake” look.

Revlon’s description

• High shine black fibre formula provides amplified volume and length
• Revlon Magnifying Lash Brush™
– Square brush designed to anchor formula to lashes for intense volume + length

Packaging

This mascara comes in a sleek black matte tube with a royal blue cap. I actually like the design of this tube because it’s not your regular round shaped tube. The actual brush is quite large which is something I look for in a mascara, especially for your upper lashes. The bristles are pretty soft and come in different sizes. I think this is a great feature because it makes it easier to pick up enough product.

My experience with Revlon volume + length magnified mascara

The mascara gives a decent amount of volume and length but nothing out of this world. You can also apply 2-3 layers to get the desired effect and it won’t go clumpy. It isn’t waterproof but what I love is the fact that it doesn’t smudge or crumble. The pigmentation is decent and the mascara wears well for about 5-6 hours.

REVLON Colorstay skinny liquid liner – electric blue

IMG_1029
I will admit that I still struggle with winged eyeliner. I, however, find it easier when the brush is short and thin. You might wonder why I chose electric blue. Lol! Well, I had a choice between brown or blue and I decided to step out of my comfort zone and went with blue.

Revlon’s description

• A new shade for you to love
• 0.1mm skinny tip liner that lasts all day
• Easy to apply with mistake proof control
• Bold, even color in one stroke
• Ophthalmologist Tested

My experience with Revlon Colorstay skinny liquid liner

I’m no expert when it comes to liquid eyeliners. All I know is that I prefer a matte formula because I once tested a liner and it looked so shiny once it dried down. I found that very strange because it just looked odd. This formula is matte and dried down to a stunning powdery finish. It isn’t waterproof and actually comes off quite easily so I wouldn’t recommend this for ladies with really oily eyelids.

REVLON Ultra HD matte lipcolor – embrace

img_10322.jpg
It doesn’t look like the matte lipstick and liquid lipstick trend is going anywhere. Matte lippies are great for those of us who don’t have time to always touch up and reapply.

Revlon’s Description

Lightweight, high definition velvety matte color. Moisturizing, velvety feel. 100% wax-free, gel formula. Available in 8 high definition shades.

Packaging

This lippie comes housed in a flat rounded tube with a silver cap. The tube looks frosty which adds a chic element that I find very attractive. The doe foot applicator has a paddle shape to it which I quite like because it’s easy to handle and applies the lip colour precisely.

The first thing I noticed when I opened it was the scent. You get a mix of vanilla cupcakes and something fruity but I can’t put my finger on it. I quite like the scent but it is quite strong and might be off-putting for some. The liquid lipstick has a rich creamy formula that applies smoothly and spreads easily on the lips. The pigmentation is pretty good and you’re able to get opaque coverage in 1-2 swipes. This lippie does not dry down to a matte finish. It’s definitely a velvety matte lipcolour meaning it does transfer and only last for a few hours before needing to be reapplied. I must say that I actually really like the formula. It’s non-sticky, lightweight and very comfortable on the lips.

REVLON Ultra HD Lip lacquer – smokey topaz

IMG_1037
I’m not a huge lipgloss fan but I do think every lady should have 2-3 in their collection. I tend to gravitate towards nude and pinkish shades because they give a natural flush of colour making the lips look yummy and lush.

Revlon’s Description

New shades to love! Lip lacquer goes HD with our innovative wax-free gel technology. Get true color clarity, vivid high-impact shine and a bouncy, lightweight feel. Available in 7 high-definition shades.

Packaging

IMG_1040
The lipgloss is packaged in a slim glass rectangular tube with a silver cap that has a cute “diamond” at the top of the cap. The bristles on the brush are quite short and soft but I’m not the biggest fan of the brush applicators because they’re not the easiest to use especially around the lip line.

img_10412.jpg

The lipgloss has a thick creamy texture which has a slightly tacky feeling but nothing too uncomfortable. They are easy to apply and are pigmented so you can get about 4 hours of wear before it starts fading. I didn’t initially get any scent but after taking the time toidentify it I got a faint sweet fragrance. Smoky Topaz is a stunning softened rosy beige shade which I absolutely adore because it really makes the lips look sumptuous.

REVLON Nail Enamel

IMG_1042
I love adding new colours to my nail polish collection so when I saw these I knew I had to grab a few.

Revlon’s Description

Chip Defiant™ formula coats nails in gorgeously smooth color. With ShadeLock™ Technology for fade-resistant wear. 23 striking shades to choose from

Packaging

The colour nail enamel comes in a stunning transparent glass bottle with a black cap and gold rim that has REVLON printed on it all around the base of the cap. The shade name sticker is placed at the top of the cap. The top coat has the exact same bottle but the cap is white with a silver rim. They have long thin brushes which aren’t my favourite. I prefer short thicker brushes because they are easier to work with for precise application.

My experience with Revlon’s Nail Enamel

This formula isn’t too thick or too thin, so a great in-between kind of formula. It applies effortlessly and dries pretty fast. I had to apply 2 coats to get a full even coverage but I think it’s because this specific shade has a white base. These nail enamels wear really well. I can go a full week without any chips and that’s through my normal house chores eg. dishes etc. They last even longer when you apply an even layer of Colorstay Gold Standard Top coat.

Overall Thoughts

The only product I’m not too fond of from all the goodies mentioned above is the foundation. I suppose it’s just not the right type of foundation for my skin type. I know there’s a foundation meant for me from this brand, so I’m not giving up. Next on my list is definitely the Colorstay foundation.
I really like the liquid liner and lip lacquer but my favourite is definitely the nail enamels and the ultra HD matte lip.
I’m generally quite pleased with the brand and will definitely try a few more products that I’ve had my eye on for a while now.

Ahhh you’re my blush twin! You definitely should pick up the BH cosmetics nude blush palette. I don’t think I’ll need another blush ever again….okay besides my benefit Dallas. I’m obsessed with that and no shade in the BH palette matches it.
That eyeliner looks fabulous. im also trying to get out of my comfort zone. We’re so similar. It’s insane!

I love love love the shade of the lip gloss! Man, I wish it was matte 😫
Lovely pictures hun. I love how the pictures are true to product colors etc.
I don’t use many Revlon products because a few of the products I have of them are just not great. Not to mention their prices are rising up quite often. If they had a sale in Cape Town though I would definitely pick up some things to try. I purchased a similar eyeliner from nyx. It’s a bit more vibrant but I love it!

Wow, thank you for your amazing tips and thoughts on these products…I have been looking for an alternative foundation to my Estee Lauder double wear as its too hectic. And I love how you say this Revlon one will create an illuminating effect. Also, I have been searching for a clump free mascara as I have bought 4 in the past month and gave them away as it goes all gooey and clumpy. I AM EXCITED to try all of the above – I came across your blog by chance and I am grateful because now I can get your expert advice before buying! Blessed! <3
