Hope you guys have been keeping well and for those who are in Johannesburg, I hope you guys have been keeping warm because damn, it’s been freezing. I honestly can’t wait for Spring, it’s my favourite season of the year and I just feel more energetic and full of life. I really think it’s the most beautiful season of the year.
Anyways, so this is my 2nd post of the LUSH series and I’ll be reviewing two cleansers. If you haven’t caught up with the previous post where I reviewed the Ocean Salt scrub and the Enzymion moisturiser then please click here. I’ve covered the detailed information regarding the company in the first post so I’ll just be focusing on the two products.

LUSH – Dark Angels Cleanser

I’m a sucker for a really good cleanser, so much so that I double cleanse my face to make sure it’s squeaky clean before I apply any moisturiser or treatment.

Texture and scent

The Dark Angels cleanser feels solid and has quite an interesting rough grainy, scrubby texture so I’m therefore very careful when I use it because I do have sensitive skin. It smells very earthy. I decided to go through the ingredient list to see what could be the reason for this strange scent and I think it’s the sandalwood and rosewood oils combined with the charcoal. I don’t mind the scent but I don’t particularly enjoy it. This could be a little offputting for some people.
Ingredients
“Rhassoul Mud (Moroccan Lava Clay) Cold Pressed Organic Avocado Oil (Persea gratissima) Glycerine Powdered Charcoal(Charcoal Powder) Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate Sugar (Sucrose) Fragrance *Linalool Sandalwood Oil (Santalum austro-caledonicum vieill) Rosewood oil (Aniba rosaeodora) (Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil) Iron Oxides *Occurs naturally in essential oils”
This the ingredient that I found quite intriguing:

• Rhassoul Mud – this is a natural mineral clay that is found in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. This ingredient is a great absorbent meaning that it’s an ingredient that will cleanse and soak up all the excess oils and sebum found on the skin and is amazing for clogged pores. So this specific product is great for acne-prone skin.

 
How I use it:
The product is quite thick and almost solid so I wet it in order to form a paste-like consistency. I do find that I have to play around with it in order to get a good consistency that makes applying it a little easier. Once I’m satisfied with the texture I then apply it all over my face avoiding the sensitive eye area. You can feel the little grainy bits and if you have sensitive skin I would suggest you rub it on very gently. I then leave it on until it has dried completely and then rinse. I do find it quite challenging to get rid of all the black grainy bits, so I rinse then use a face cloth and rinse and rinse, lol, you need a whole lot of patience with this product. I usually use a gentle cleanser afterwards just to make sure I’ve removed the gritty feeling that this cleanser may leave behind.
It works amazingly well especially if you feel some pimples coming on and you would like to treat them before they get worse. I use it once a week because I hardly breakout. (My skin has been kind to me). If you’re known to breakout then I would suggest using it two to three times a week. It provides a deep cleanse to prevent any further breakouts and helps reduce the size of any pimples you might have until they have completely disappeared.
 

LUSH – Ultrabland Cleanser

I love me some gentle cleansers and this is exactly what this product is. “A gentle cleanser”.

Texture and scent

This cleanser has a thick creamy balm like consistency that turns into an oily texture so it doesn’t emulsify too well with water and therefore needs to wiped off. I use this after I have removed my makeup with my Micellar water, just to melt away any makeup that might still be left behind. It has a slight citrusy scent to it but it’s so faint that you have to concentrate to try and make out what it smells like.

“Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis) Rose Water (Rosa centifolia) (Rosa Centifolia Flower Water) Beeswax (Cera alba) Honey Fresh Iris Extract (Iris florentina) Glycerine Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena) Tincture of Benzoin (Styrax benzoin) Methylparaben Propylparaben *Occurs naturally in essential oils”
The two ingredients that stand out for me are:

• Rosewater – this is such an amazing natural ingredient and I know so many ladies swear by it. Not only does it help maintain the skins pH levels but it also hydrates and moisturises the skin leaving it feeling revitalised. It’s amazing for its anti-inflammatory properties so it’s a must-have for those suffering from severe acne or those who have extra sensitive skin.
• Beeswax – what I find fascinating about this ingredient is that it has the ability to draw moisture to the skin and then sealing in the moisture without clogging the pores, therefore providing maximum moisture.

How I use it:
So like I’ve mentioned above, this cleanser has quite a balmy feel to it and doesn’t mix too well with water. I remove my makeup with my Micellar water, making sure my face isn’t wet afterwards. I then take a small amount of the Ultrabland, warm it up between my fingers and gently massage it all over my face. I use a hot damp cloth to gently remove the product. You don’t have to apply any moisturiser after using it unless you have very dry skin because my skin feels quite hydrated after I’ve used this cleanser. I do however tone afterwards and use my usual moisturiser so you could do the same if you like.
I’ve enjoyed using this cleanser but I feel it’s better used as a makeup remover because it’s an oil-based product and removes even waterproof mascara with ease. I love that it leaves that layer of moisture even after you have removed it so it’s great for those late nights/early mornings when you’ve come home from a party and lazy to do the 10000 steps. You just wipe away and you’re good to go.
