Colourpop Series: The Zodiac Collection

What’s your sign? This is a question I’ve asked many people because I’m that intrigued by the zodiac. Astrology is something that I have often been curious to learn more about. I even had to find out what time I was born just so I could discover the details of my birth chart. I know, pretty serious stuff. So when I heard that Colourpop was collaborating with Kathleen Lights to create a zodiac collection, I jumped for joy. I just find it so intriguing and this stuff is pretty complex. I’ll share some information I read on a site I found, below.

The Zodiac signs

There are 12 zodiac signs, and each sign has its own strengths and weaknesses, its own specific traits, desires and attitude towards life and people. By analyzing the projection of the position of planets, and the Sun and the Moon on the Ecliptic at the moment of birth. Astrology can give you a glimpse of a person’s basic characteristics, preferences, flaws and fears. Each of the 12 horoscope signs belongs to one of the four elements – Air, Fire, Water and Earth. These elements represent an essential type of energy that acts in each of us.

The Four Elements

Water Signs

Water signs are exceptionally emotional and ultra-sensitive. They are highly intuitive and they can be as mysterious as the ocean itself. The Water Signs are: CancerScorpio and Pisces.

Fire Signs

Fire signs tend to be passionate, dynamic, and temperamental. They get angry quickly, but they also forgive easily. They are adventurers with immense energy. The Fire Signs are: AriesLeo and Sagittarius.

Earth Signs

Earth signs are “grounded” and the ones that bring us down to earth. They are mostly conservative and realistic, but they can also be very emotional. The Earth Signs are: TaurusVirgo and Capricorn.

Air Signs

Air signs are rational, social, and love communication and relationships with other people. They are thinkers, friendly, intellectual, communicative and analytical. The Air Signs are: GeminiLibraand Aquarius.

Within astrology, there are three main signs that are considered to be the most important for describing who you are: your Sun sign, Moon sign and Ascendant or rising sign. While your Sun sign determines your basic ego, self-image and personality, your Moon sign determines your inner emotions, intuitions, feelings, thoughts and instincts. Finally, your Ascendant sign determines how the world sees and perceives you.

I’m a Capricorn and I can give loads of information on why I think “Capricon’s” rule Lol! Joking! But Capricorn-born people are generally known to be the most determined of the entire Zodiac. The most prominent qualities of the Goats, as we are called, are that we are ambitious, conservative, determined, practical and helpful.

Our Positive Qualities: Faithful, Ambitious, Self-controlled, Determined, Responsible, Sincere

Negative Qualities: Shy, Pessimistic, Awkward, Detached, Gloomy, Stubborn.

Anyways, enough about the astrology talk. Let’s get into chatting about the items I purchased from this collection. The seven-piece Zodiac Collection includes two lipsticks, two liquid eye shadows, two highlighters, and an eye shadow palette all inspired by Kathleen Lights’s passion for the zodiac. I purchased the eyeshadow palette and one lipstick.

The Zodiac Palette – $18

I must admit that I wasn’t overly wowed when Kathleen Lights revealed the palette. I love that each shade is a close representation of the signs but the palette didn’t look cohesive enough. This is, strangely enough, the reason why I bought it. I looked at the swatches of each shade and thought that they were all unique.

Packaging

Encased in a black cardboard outer box with the sign’s symbols printed all around it. The actual palette comes in their usual durable cardboard in a stunning navy blue colour which the same zodiac symbols printed in gold. The palette also comes with a great size mirror which is always well received by beauty fanatics. The shade names are not only printed on the back of the palette but also under each pan.

Eyeshadows and Pigmentation

This palette has 12 shadows which consist of a satin, 4 matte and 7 shimmery/metallic finishes. For the most part, the shadows perform beautifully. They blend really well and have great pigmentation. The shimmery/metallic shades perform really well with a dry brush and look extra foiled with a wet brush. The cobalt blue shade” The Aquarius” is the only disappointing shade. It’s very powdery and tends to have a difficult time sticking to your lid. It’s one of those shades where you have to blend…and blend……………and blend.

Shade description

The Aries: This metallic firey orange is as bold as your confidence
The Taurus: You can rely on this matte camel brown, uh huh!
The Gemini: Express yourself in this metallic antique gold
The Cancer: This soft peachy pink with a golden sheen feels like home
The Leo: This soft coral with a gold flip is sure to grab your attention
The Virgo: You’ll wear this matte dark chocolate brown with practically every look
The Libra: This matte light dusty rose brings balance to any look
The Scorpio: Share your passion with this rich metallic plum
The Sagittarius: Up for an adventure? Try this matte magenta purple
The Capricorn: Shoot for the stars with this black with gold glitter
The Aquarius: This matte periwinkle blue will unleash your creativity
The Pisces: Be a daydream believer in this vibrant metallic aqua

I have 3 favourites shades from this palette,  which are “The Pisces”, ” the Gemini” and “the Cancer”. I find these shades so unique and the quality is just out of this world. So easy to apply, looks gorgeous on the eyes and wears well for over 8 hours without any crazy fading.

Lux Lipstick – $7

I’m more of a liquid lipstick girl but I’ve recently been reaching more for my tradition lipsticks. I try and give my lips a break from the matte liquid lipsticks by continuously making use of different finishes.

ColourPop launched of their Lux Lipsticks a while back and I have a few in my collection. I will share a detailed review on the packaging, formula and lip swatches in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

What’s your sign is a bit of a neutral nude shade with some orangey-brown tones. It’s such a gorgeous nude shade on my skin tone. The lipstick feels hydrating on the lips with full colour pay off in one swipe.

Final Thoughts

I have seen so many people get creative with this eyeshadow palette! The colour selection is not exactly common for a palette, and many like me, who aren’t makeup artists, have complained at its lack of cohesiveness. BUT, I’ve seen so many  YouTube videos of unique colour pairings. This gets me really excited because it forces me to try different looks.

Overall, this palette is really pretty. I don’t think you need to rush out and buy it unless you are in love with these shades and don’t have anything else like it.

The lipstick is stunning and if you’re into comfortable nude lipsticks then you won’t go wrong with this one.

Do you like the colour range of this palette? Would you purchase it? Also, what’s your sign? I’m quite curious to know lol
